Real Men Use Tools: Specialty Tools
Monday, May 04, 2009 — Brad Singleton

Crazytool One thing I've figured out in the midst of my projects around the house is that sometimes there is only one tool for one job, and one job for one tool. These specialty tools may not come in handy for every job, but when you need them, you need them.

When it comes to a focused time spent with God and His Word, there is one tool am hooked to. It's called EXAMEN.me Here is how they describe themselves

"EXAMEN.me is a simple-to-use web site that fosters your personal interaction with God. This modern approach to ancient devotional practices guides you to examen your life as you meditate on scripture, pray, and journal all of your reflections. No matter where you are in your pilgrimage with Christ, EXAMEN.me will help you interact with God."

If you are looking for a way to freshen up your time in the Word. I would highly recommend you check out EXAMEN.me!

Real Men Use Tools: Power Tools
Sunday, May 03, 2009 — Brad Singleton

Drill Now you know that you can get by with the basics, but its always more fun to use power tools! I've got a power drill that I love! At my job I frequently use chop saws, band saws, reciprocating saws, skill saws, impact guns, nail guns, and wheel grinders. Power tools help you get the job done in a way that just isn't possible with simple hand tools.

You can say the same thing about your spiritual growth. There are tools that you have to have, but there are also "power tools" that can help you go deeper in your walk with God.

Last post we talked about online bible readers like BibleGateway.com, but there is another online bible reader that takes interaction to a new level. YouVersion.com recently launched out of beta with a new design and side-by-side reading features that totally rock!

Not only can you read the Bible in your choice of translation, you can also browse a huge library of submitted videos, posts, and notes that are linked to the relevant verse! You will find everything from sermons to personal thoughts on verses throughout the Bible. This can be a great way to see multiple perspectives on a single verse, helping you to understand the scriptures in a deeper way.

Stay tuned for the next and last post in this series: Specialty Tools

Real Men Use Tools: The Basics
Tuesday, April 28, 2009 — Brad Singleton

Hammer I believe every man should at least own a hammer, a screwdriver, and a set of pliers. Most projects can be accomplished by banging, twisting and pulling, and these tools will ussually get that job done. In our journey to becoming a fully devoted follower of Christ, there are some basic tools that we need as well.

The one basic tool that you need most is a Bible that you can read and understand. There are hundreds of various translations (versions) of the Bible that exist, so it's important to know what your looking for.

If you would like a translation that is more word for word, then you might consider the English Standard Version (ESV) or the New American Standard Bible (NASB). If your looking for a thought by thought or paraphrase then I would recommend The Message (MSG) Bible. Lastly, if your looking for something in between I would check out the New Living Translation (NLT).

All of these can be found in your local bookstore, and online at BibleGateway.

Next Post we will talk about "power tools" that will help you get more out of your reading time!

Real Men Use Tools.
Sunday, April 26, 2009 — Brad Singleton

Tools Have you ever tackeled a home improvement project around your house? Over the past year we have completely renovated our kitchen and done quite a bit of cosmetic work around the entryway. and guest bathroom. One of the first things I discovered in the process...

Having the right tools makes a big difference.

The same is true in your journey with Christ. You can try to go at it alone, but with a few tools in your belt you will be able to accelorate your spiritual life and go deeper in your walk with God.

Over the next week I'm going to share a few online and offline tools that I have found to be helpful.

For now what are some tools that you've found?
