I’m always racing the clock.  What should I do?

If you’re in a Small Group and you’re continually coming up against the clock, we can give you a few ideas of things that we’ve put in to practice in our Small Group. And they work rather well.

The first thing is you have a schedule of events. You have a sequence of one thing to the other to the other and you really work hard to stick to that. What we have done in our Small Group is we’ve designated that after an hour and a half, we’re going to prayer. And we have a timekeeper. We establish somebody in the group that’s a timekeeper and they watch the time. And they give you a little subtle cue that it’s time to go from one area to the other. And then at an hour and a half, we go to prayer.

It’s very important that we stick to that schedule. One thing that you do have to be very aware of though is, don’t squash the Spirit. The Holy Spirit may lead you into an area where you may need to have a little extra time, and that’s okay. Being flexible is very important, because you want your Small Group to develop that relationship and that sense of community that’s so incredibly important in your Small Group. Those are a couple of the things that we have done and they’ve worked rather well in our Small Group.
