How do I measure the
health of my Small Group?
How do you measure the health of your Small Group? I think
it’s very important that we periodically look at the Small Group and one of the
things that I’ve employed within the Small Groups that I’ve been a part of is
assess how the people are doing mentally, how they’re doing physically, but
more importantly, how they’re doing spiritually. One of the things that it says
in 1 Corinthians 13 is there are three principles that Christians really should
hold onto very dearly and that’s faith, hope, and love.
In terms of a Small Group, ask yourself, “What are we doing
in terms of love?” Love is the most important thing. Are you spending time
together? Is that love overflowing out of your Small Group and going into the
community? More importantly, is it going into the church in terms of service? Are
you spending time together where you’re experiencing life and life abundantly
together?
My Small Groups typically enjoy going to each other’s
athletic events, whether it’s softball or soccer. We enjoy spending special
event time together. We go to fireworks displays together on the 4th
of July. And it’s awesome to watch that love amongst all of the members of the Small
Group really show itself within the community and especially within the church.
A Small Group needs to be able to define themselves by what it is that they
bring to the community and especially what they bring to the church. That is
really a good indicator of how healthy your Small Group is.
