Does God Care If You Like Your Job?

What if your job satisfaction was directly related to how God uniquely wired you? Would that change the way you think about your career? Would it change the way you job search?

At first, Amanda was nervous to go to the ReStart Conference. Someone might recognize her and wonder why she was there. “I had a job in education and was doing well,” she said, “but I’d realized how much I enjoyed advocating for teachers. I wanted to do more for my profession and to dedicate time to finding solutions for education.”

With people from all walks of life at the conference, Amanda soon felt supported and at ease. “There were a lot of teachers there and it didn’t take long for me to see that I was really going to get something out of this.”

A Few Examples of How the ReStart Conference Helps Identify Gifts and Strengths:

Headshots: Take a professional photo to use in your job search.

Network: Meet other professionals, develop contacts, and forge new friendships.

Exit statement: Receive help in developing exit statements: reasons for leaving your current job or explaining what happened at your last job.

Elevator pitch/speech: Learn how to give a short overview of yourself to potential employers.

DiSC assessment: Take the DiSC assessment, a behavioral assessment tool. It can offer insight into what types of jobs you might find fulfilling.

Community groups: After the conference, community groups offer you support and encouragement. Here you can bounce ideas off of people, celebrate successes, and support each other through struggles.

What a Faith-Based Conference Offers

Ecclesiastes 5:18-20 states that finding satisfaction in your job is a gift from God.

For Amanda, being around people who believe that, too, is important. “I know God has a purpose for me, and it’s great to have the support of others who understand that.”

Finding Your Dream Job

“I found the courage to take a chance and do something I love. Thanks to ReStart and the support of my school district, I can work part-time in math intervention with at-risk kids—and study education in the doctoral program for Education Leadership to advocate for teachers.”

“For anyone on the fence about going to the ReStart conference,” Amanda said, “just give it a shot. It’s one Saturday. The conference is free and they offer you so much. This is your chance to connect with people who can help you realize your dreams.”

What about you? Have you identified your gifts and strengths? Are you following God’s direction into the job that we were made for?
