Seacoast Church operates a winter warming center because caring for vulnerable neighbors is a practical expression of Christ’s love and a commitment to serve the community in times of greatest need. When temperatures drop below 35 degrees between December 1 and March 1, exposure to the cold becomes dangerous—and even life-threatening—for those experiencing homelessness or housing instability. The warming center exists to provide more than just shelter from the cold; it offers safety, dignity, compassion, and connection to resources that can lead toward long-term stability. By opening its doors during the harshest winter nights, Seacoast Church seeks to be the hands and feet of Jesus, ensuring that no one in the community has to face freezing conditions alone while demonstrating hospitality, hope, and the love of God in tangible ways. Our warming centers are run completely off volunteers and donations from our church and community.
Adults ages 18 and older who want to serve during any shift must attend a training orientation PRIOR to volunteering on-site. All shifts are considered “on-call” and are available from December 1 through March. The determination to open is made 48 hours in advance based on the projected forecast in Summerville, SC.
