VBS Day 3 Recap

Bible Story: The Road to Emmaus (The Life of Jesus) • Luke 24:13-35

Memory Verse: “I have come so they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way.” John 10:10b, NIrV

Bottom Line: Live like Jesus is alive.

Hey Parents!

Today has been AMPED! Our Bible Story today was amazing! We heard about two friends who were on a journey and met a stranger along the way. The stranger turned out to be none other than Jesus. They thought he was dead, but he was ALIVE! Let’s take another look at today’s Bottom Line. Live like Jesus is alive.

Knowing that Jesus is alive changes everything! It means that everything God ever said and everything Jesus ever did is TRUE. Living like Jesus is alive changes how we see the people around us. We can see them how God sees them, and treat them like we want to be treated.

And when we believe that Jesus’ death and resurrection has the power to save us, we can be fully alive with God forever!

FAMILY DEVO: Read John 10:10b

“I have come so they may have life. I want them to have it in the fullest possible way.”

Jesus left Heaven and came to Earth to show us who God is. At the end of his time on earth, Jesus died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins — the wrong things we do. And because our sin separates us from a perfect God, Jesus came to suffer and die to fix that relationship forever.

But here’s the really AMAZING part: Jesus died on the cross, but he didn’t stay that way. Three days later, the tomb where Jesus had been buried was empty. Jesus is ALIVE! He came back from the dead to prove once and for all that nothing, not even death, could separate us from God. So here’s a BIG question: do you live like Jesus is alive? Do you know what Jesus did for you, and have you chosen to trust him as your Savior? Jesus came so that you could have LIFE—that means life here on Earth, and life forever one day with God.

To find out more about how you can have a relationship with Jesus, look up the following verses and read them with a trusted adult.

Ask God to help you understand what it means to live like Jesus is alive!

It feels good to “talk it out” with a friend. No matter what you’re going through—whether it’s something great or something difficult— it’s always better when you can talk about it with someone who cares.

Think about Jesus’ followers who were walking along the road to Emmaus. They were trying to wrap their minds around what had happened. After all that Jesus had done and all he claimed to be, he died. He left them. Wasn’t he supposed to set his people free? But then they had also heard Jesus’ tomb was empty. What did it all mean? Was Jesus really alive? Was he really who he said he was— God’s Son?

The disciples did what you probably do when you’re trying to make sense of something. They talked. They tried to understand everything they had heard and seen.

Here’s a question: who first told you about Jesus? Do you remember? Was it your parents? Did you hear about him from a grandparent? From a friend? Or at church?

Maybe you could be that person for someone else. Maybe you could help another person “talk it out” if they’re wondering if the whole Jesus story is true. Or maybe you could encourage each other to trust God if things are tough right now. When you know for sure that Jesus is alive, you can face whatever is in your path with courage and confidence! How can you live like Jesus is still at work in the world today?

THANK God for sending his Son, Jesus, to die and rise again so that you can have a relationship with him!

AMPED PRAY: “Heavenly Father, you are so amazing. Thank you for sending your Son to be with us on earth to live, to cry, to laugh, to pray, to perform miracles, and to eventually suffer and die for us. It’s something that we can’t comprehend and definitely something that we don’t deserve. But I thank you so much for your love. I pray that our lives will be forever changed because of what Jesus did for us. We love you and we ask these things in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

As you drive to and from VBS this week, listen to the Kidscoast EP.  Share with everyone in the car at least one way that you can live and love like Jesus did. Then take some time to look out the window and point out to each other all the things that are alive. As you sing at the top of your lungs, think about how amazing it is that Jesus is alive! How does knowing that change how you live YOUR life?
